Terrorism – what does it mean?

The terrorist attacks in Paris rocked the world and provided a stark reminder to companies in the West that they need to tighten up security for both their assets and their employees. Whilst it would be easy to only consider this for staff travelling abroad for business, the indiscriminate nature of the Paris attacks shows that we are all potentially at risk.Terrorism

Whilst terrorism cover is a standard exclusion from property insurance, travel insurance and the like, employers can take some comfort from the fact that their employers liability insurance does provide £5,000,000 of cover if the employer is found to be negligent. However this is small comfort should an attack happen. People think of terrorism as a bomb going off but it is now more of a people risk. Terrorism can include any of the following:

• suicide operations

• hijackings

• bombings

• kidnappings

• shootings

• attacks on commercial aircraft and ships

• use of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials

JoElliottHeadShotWe all need to be extra vigilant; the recent attacks highlight the fact that incidents are not limited to the USA or the Middle East and so could happen closer to home which puts our whole way of life at risk! Cover for terrorism is available in the market and if you want to discuss this in more detail then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01302 341 344.
