Time to Travel

At long last it seems we are getting back to ‘normal’ and we can finally think about and enjoy international travel. There has been a lot in the news about people forgetting to renew their passports but have you remembered to reinstate another essential item –  travel insurance?

Throughout the pandemic, the insurance industry saw a natural dip in the purchase and supply of travel insurance, for both business and personal use. Now things are looking a bit more positive, we see travel companies and airports being overwhelmed with travelers once again. However, in the midst of booking a business trip or holiday it’s easy to forget insurance.

Business travel policies can often include leisure travel as standard, for specified individuals and should be considered an essential part of any insurance portfolio when trips are planned. Naturally the question of Covid-19 cover is at the forefront of most peoples’ minds when looking to take and insure a trip. Importantly, and possibly surprisingly, business travel insurers have generally not looked to apply any restrictions in relation to this and would continue to cover costs expenses in the same way as any other medical emergency.

It should also be remembered that travel insurance starts once the trip is booked and not only for the duration of the trip; it provides valuable cover for cancellation and delay amongst other benefits.

An important aspect to highlight is the fact insurers will not provide cover when trips are taken against government guidelines and restrictions, as per the foreign offices advice, which can be found – Foreign travel advice – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). In uncertain times, it’s always best to check this prior to booking your trip, and at all times, ensure insurance is put in place at the time of booking.
