Driving licence update

Earlier this month we advised that the DVLA was planning to scrap the paper driving licence in January 2015. Following pressure from the Freight Transport Association (FTA), the Government has now decided to delay plans to abolish the paper counterpart to the driving licence until a suitable online system for checking licence details is in place. The proposed system, where the driver would obtain their details from the “View Driver Record” was not considered practical – especially for companies who may be checking licences multiple times during the year.

Does this mean that you can just forget about driving licences for now? Well, no. The government is determined that the paper licences will be scrapped in the near future and so we would recommend that you continue to consider alternative methods of checking your driver’s competence so that you IanClaytonHeadShotare prepared for when the inevitable happens. You’ll also find that moving away from manual checking will provide you with significant efficiency savings as well as data security enhancements.
